Let's look at concerns about crime in Offenham.
The question raised is, are crimes on the increase in our beautiful village? Well statistically, in the last six months, only eleven crimes have been recorded. These crimes range from the village shop being robbed, burglary to garages and sheds, glass broken in parish council notice board and anti-social behaviour. To have a look at the latest figures for Offenham or any area in the UK, go online to http://www.police.uk.
Now, I am sure we all agree crime, no matter how big or small is not acceptable. That also includes those who do not pick up their dog poo! Yet, when you look at the statistics around Evesham Rural North, Offenham’s crime figures over a whole six-month time period are not bad. What has made these figures and crimes sound worse is how sometimes they are reported by the press and postings on social media.
Let me give you one instance, the assault that took place at the Bridge Inn on 13 December. The headlines read,
Pub fight hospitalizes several people as police appeal for information.
The real truth is, reports got overstated. no one was hospitalized and to date, no arrests have been made.
Now, another relevant question that many ask is, what are the local Police doing to prevent crime in Offenham? Well our gallant officers are out their twenty-four seven, but sadly, they cover a large area and cannot be in all places at once. One thing they are planning in the next few weeks on a short-term basis is increasing their presence in and around Offenham Village.
The Police do indeed investigate every reported incidence and when possible follow it through to criminal convictions. However, at times they rely on information from the public or a good Neibourhood Watch. Now that’s where you can assist. Please join the Offenham village Neighbourhood watch. Full details of joining are in the Offenham Magazine or go direct to www.ourwatch.org.uk.
There are also a few other things you can do to stop becoming a crime victim, they are as follows;

There are also a few other things you can do to stop becoming a crime victim, they are as follows;
- Lock your doors, patios and downstairs window – even when you are in. Make sure you double check them again before you go to bed.
- Have outdoor security lights and set a timer to so they come on when it gets dark.
- If you have a burglar alarm, make sure you set it when you go out or to bed.
- Consider having CCTV fitted.
- Have good quality locks on garden sheds and make sure you lock your garden gate or side entrances.
- Do not leave your wheelie bins out where they can be used to climb on to gain access to your property
- Don’t leave cars keys, ID cards or valuables near windows where burglars can reach through to steal them.
Take the ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) SurveyDear Folks,
Please see below message for your information and participation. If you could also share this with family, friends, neighbours and the wider community, it would be most appreciated.
West Mercia Police has launched an online survey about the use of ANPR technology across the region.
The survey aims to give local communities, as well as those who travel through the region, a chance to voice their views and understanding of how ANPR is used to tackle crime.
The technology is used to help detect, deter and disrupt criminality at a local, force, regional and national level, including tackling travelling criminals, organised crime groups and terrorists.
ANPR provides lines of enquiry and evidence in the investigation of crime and is used by forces throughout England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
The aim of the survey, which runs for six weeks from today, is to develop a broader view of public perceptions and understanding of police use of ANPR, allowing us to inform and engage with our communities around its future use.
